The demonstration took place at Sui Basecamp in Singapore, where the network recorded a peak of 40,614,180 TPS. The result significantly exceeded the approximately 6.1 million TPS achieved during a similar test conducted in July.
The transactions were processed through Sui’s programmable offchain tunnels, which allow activity to take place outside the main blockchain before settling onchain when the tunnels are closed. During the demonstration, more than 10,000 tunnels were opened on the Sui mainnet, supporting transactions across several applications, including payments, gaming and messaging.
The technology is designed to accommodate large volumes of activity without requiring every individual transaction to be processed directly on the blockchain. By handling transactions offchain and settling the results on Sui, the tunnels aim to provide the scalability needed for applications that require extremely high transaction frequencies.
Sui said its programmable tunnels are particularly suited to environments involving autonomous AI agents, which may need to execute transactions far more frequently than human users. “Sui is built for the moment when millions of AI agents are transacting every day,” said Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, the original contributor to Sui.
He further highlighted the difference between traditional financial activity and the potential transaction demands of AI-powered systems. “No market in the world needs 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million: people just don’t move that fast. Agents do.” The demonstration reflects Sui’s efforts to develop infrastructure capable of supporting automated, high-volume interactions across digital applications.
Blockchain security company CertiK participated in the demonstration as an independent auditor and is currently reviewing the data collected during the test. A report assessing the results is expected to be published in the coming days.
The reported throughput represents transactions processed through Sui’s offchain tunnels rather than transactions executed individually on the main blockchain. The results therefore demonstrate the capacity of the offchain system under the test conditions, rather than the Sui mainnet’s direct onchain transaction throughput.
