The Solana Foundation has introduced Solana DvP, an open-source settlement program designed to help financial institutions reduce the time required to settle securities transactions.

The initiative provides an open-source application programming interface (API) for delivery-versus-payment (DvP) settlement on the Solana blockchain, allowing financial institutions to coordinate asset transfers and payments within a single transaction.

Solana DvP aims to reduce settlement times to seconds

According to the Solana Foundation, the program could shorten securities settlement times from the traditional one to two days to just seconds. Solana DvP uses atomic settlement, meaning the transfer of securities and the corresponding payment either occur together or neither takes place. This approach is designed to reduce settlement risk by ensuring that both sides of a transaction are completed simultaneously.

The program also provides institutions with a reusable settlement framework, reducing the need to develop customized smart contracts for individual transactions.

JPMorgan contributes to institutional settlement framework

JPMorgan provided input on institutional settlement practices and requirements during the development of Solana DvP. Rhodel D’Souza, head of markets digital assets at JPMorgan, described the settlement standard as the type of “foundational infrastructure” that institutional market participants need to “operate at scale without introducing settlement risk and counterparty exposure.”

The involvement of JPMorgan reflects growing interest among traditional financial institutions in blockchain-based settlement systems that could improve transaction efficiency while addressing operational and counterparty risks.

Blockchain settlement initiatives continue to expand

The launch adds to broader industry efforts to modernize financial settlement using blockchain technology. In June 2025, Chainlink, JPMorgan’s Kinexys and Ondo Finance completed a cross-chain DvP pilot involving Ondo’s tokenized US Treasury fund, with payments processed through Kinexys.

More recently, Kraken’s parent company, Payward, announced a partnership with Singapore Gulf Bank on Monday to enable around-the-clock US dollar settlement for selected institutional clients in Asia and the Gulf region.

These developments highlight the increasing focus on blockchain infrastructure as financial institutions explore ways to accelerate settlement and improve the efficiency of traditional financial transactions.
