Prediction market operator Kalshi has completed a $1 billion Series G funding round, securing a valuation of $40 billion as the company continues expanding its presence in financial markets and event-based trading.

According to a report from Reuters, the investment round was jointly led by Wellington Management and Sequoia Capital, reflecting continued investor interest in the rapidly growing prediction market industry. The financing comes as Kalshi diversifies its business beyond sports-related contracts, with its non-sports markets now generating more than $1 billion in annualized revenue, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Kalshi reaches $40 billion valuation following latest funding round

Kalshi's latest financing marks another significant increase in the company's valuation, which stood at $22 billion in May 2026. At that time, the platform raised $1 billion through a Series F funding round led by Coatue Management.

The company also reported an annualized revenue run rate exceeding $1.5 billion during the previous financing round, highlighting the scale of its growing prediction market operations. Reports of Kalshi's latest fundraising plans first emerged in September, when the company was reportedly negotiating a $1 billion investment at a $40 billion valuation.

The announcement confirmed that the financing had been completed under those terms. The new valuation represents an increase of approximately 82% compared with May, demonstrating strong investor demand for exposure to prediction market businesses.

Kalshi has also recorded substantial trading activity as interest in event-based contracts continues to expand. According to DefiLlama, the platform processed approximately $15.8 billion in trading volume over the preceding 30 days. The figures illustrate the growing scale of prediction markets, where participants trade contracts based on the outcomes of sporting events, economic developments and other real-world occurrences.

Kalshi expands partnerships across sports and financial markets

Alongside its fundraising activities, Kalshi has continued developing partnerships intended to broaden the reach of its prediction market services. The National Basketball Association (NBA) designated Kalshi and competing platform Polymarket as preferred prediction market exchanges.

The agreement represents another step in connecting prediction market platforms with established sports organizations. Kalshi has also strengthened its presence in traditional financial markets through a partnership with S&P Dow Jones Indices. The collaboration is designed to introduce financial benchmarks into event contracts, potentially expanding the range of market-related outcomes available for trading.

These initiatives reflect Kalshi's strategy of moving beyond sports-focused contracts and developing a broader marketplace for financial and economic events. The company reported that its non-sports markets now produce more than $1 billion in annualized revenue, suggesting that financial and other event-based contracts are becoming increasingly important to its business.

Regulatory disputes intensify as Kalshi faces legal challenges

Despite its rapid growth and expanding partnerships, Kalshi continues to face significant regulatory challenges in the United States. The central dispute concerns whether the platform's sports-related event contracts should be regulated under state gambling laws or federal derivatives legislation.

Kalshi operates within the federal derivatives regulatory framework, while several states have challenged the legality of its sports contracts under their gambling regulations. The conflict escalated last week when Utah filed a lawsuit against the company.

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) responded by initiating separate legal proceedings seeking to prevent Utah from enforcing its state-level restrictions against Kalshi. The dispute intensified further on Wednesday, when Utah filed criminal charges against Kalshi and its co-founders, according to Reuters.

These developments highlight the continuing uncertainty surrounding the regulatory treatment of prediction markets, particularly when contracts involve sporting events. While Kalshi's latest funding round demonstrates substantial investor confidence in its growth prospects, the outcome of these legal disputes could influence how prediction market platforms operate across the United States.

The company's expanding financial market offerings and partnerships may also become increasingly important as it navigates the evolving regulatory environment surrounding event-based trading.
