Mastercard expects the acquisition to help banks, fintech companies and other businesses expand their use of stablecoins and tokenized assets across cross-border payments, payouts, settlement and treasury operations.
In a separate announcement, BVNK confirmed that it had officially joined Mastercard. The company said existing customers can continue using the same teams, products and integrations, with no action required following the acquisition.
BVNK added that the combined offering could allow banks to introduce stablecoin payment services and connect customer accounts with digital wallets. Payment providers may also be able to offer merchants round-the-clock settlement. The company said Mastercard’s international reach would further expand its card capabilities and cross-border fund transfer services.
Mastercard first agreed to acquire BVNK in March for up to $1.8 billion, including $300 million in performance-based payments. The transaction comes after Coinbase and BVNK ended discussions over a separate deal reportedly valued at $2 billion in November 2025. Those negotiations had already progressed to the due diligence stage before being abandoned.
