Kenya Moves 30 Million Academic Credentials on Avalanche Blockchain

Kenya has introduced a blockchain-based platform for verifying academic qualifications through the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), placing more than 30 million education records on the Avalanche network. KNEC and Avalanche announced the initiative on Monday, saying the system is intended to reduce certificate fraud and address the thousands of forged academic credentials reportedly identified in Kenya each year.

The platform allows employers, universities and other organizations to verify qualifications directly onchain, making academic records more resistant to alteration or falsification. KNEC “is bringing tamper-proof e-certification to Kenya on Avalanche,” Avalanche said in a video announcing the launch.

Adoption levels remain unclear

Although the verification platform is now operational, neither KNEC nor Avalanche disclosed how widely it has been used by students, employers, universities or other educational institutions. The system is designed to simplify credential checks while giving institutions a more reliable way to confirm that certificates are authentic.

Avalanche expands into public-sector infrastructure

For Avalanche, the project represents one of its largest government-related deployments and extends the blockchain’s use beyond decentralized finance and digital assets into public record verification.

However, the announcement did not explain whether the rollout is expected to create additional demand for Avalanche’s native AVAX token. AVAX declined 1.1% on Monday and remained approximately 69% below its price from a year earlier, according to CoinMarketCap.
