A study published Wednesday found that the market capitalization of tokenized traditional assets—including precious metals, US equities, commodities, global indexes and foreign exchange products—rose from $1.4 billion in January 2025 to $6.6 billion in June 2026. The report examined activity across Binance, OKX, Bybit, Bitget, Gate and MEXC.
Early growth was driven mainly by tokenized precious metals before investor demand shifted increasingly toward US stocks. By mid-2026, perpetual futures linked to US equities had surpassed precious metals in both trading volume and open interest, supported by interest in semiconductor companies and expected initial public offerings.
Perpetual futures account for most trading in tokenized traditional assets, while spot markets remain relatively limited. CoinGecko said derivatives are more popular because traders often prefer leveraged exposure. They are also easier for exchanges to introduce, since platforms can list perpetual contracts without issuing or holding the underlying tokenized assets.
The expansion reflects a wider effort by centralized exchanges to attract and retain users as decentralized platforms gain market share and traditional brokerages add more digital asset products. Robinhood is among the financial platforms that have significantly expanded their crypto services, highlighting the increasing overlap between conventional investing and digital asset trading.
Institutional interest is also accelerating the shift toward blockchain-based traditional assets. A June report from Standard Chartered estimated that real-world asset adoption could help decentralized finance grow into a $2.7 trillion market by 2030. Bernstein analysts separately projected that the broader tokenization sector could reach $4 trillion by the end of the decade as financial institutions increase their use of blockchain infrastructure.
Recent partnerships further demonstrate this convergence. BitGo and OTC Markets Group have teamed up to broaden access to tokenized securities for more than 150 broker-dealers, while Tradable partnered with the Stellar network to bring as much as $1 billion in private credit assets onchain.
