Strategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has resumed buying after a two-month pause, acquiring 4,603 BTC for approximately $370 million. According to a Monday 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the company purchased the Bitcoin at an average price of $80,318 per coin. The acquisition increased Strategy’s total holdings to 845,050 BTC, accumulated for roughly $63.3 billion at an average purchase price of $75,413.

The latest purchase was funded through the net proceeds of a $602 million sale of MSTR common stock. Strategy also allocated $30 million from the proceeds to increase its US dollar cash reserve and used $151.8 million to repurchase shares of its STRC preferred stock.

Strategy resumes Bitcoin accumulation

The transaction marks Strategy’s first Bitcoin purchase since mid-June, when the company acquired 1,587 BTC for around $100 million. A day before the latest announcement, Strategy co-founder and executive chairman Michael Saylor hinted that the company was preparing to restart its accumulation strategy.

“We’re Back,” Saylor wrote in a widely viewed post on X. Saylor has frequently used similar weekend posts to tease upcoming Bitcoin treasury announcements before official disclosures are released. Strategy’s Nasdaq-listed MSTR shares rose by less than 1% in Monday premarket trading after falling more than 7% on Friday.

STRC remains key to Strategy’s funding model

Strategy’s perpetual preferred stock, STRC, gained 0.44% in premarket trading to $97.33, according to Yahoo Finance. That left the shares trading at a 2.67% discount to their intended $100 par value. STRC is one of the company’s main tools for raising capital to fund Bitcoin purchases. If the preferred shares remain below par, Strategy may have less flexibility to raise funds through additional STRC issuance and could need to increase the dividend rate to attract investors.

In its June 29 filing, Strategy introduced a broader capital framework that allows Bitcoin sales to help fund dividend payments and raised the annual dividend rate on STRC to 12%. Bitcoin Sales Become Part of Capital Strategy Strategy also disclosed the sale of 32 Bitcoin in early June, marking its first reported BTC sale since a tax-loss transaction in 2022.

The move represented a shift from the company’s long-standing emphasis on continuous accumulation, as Strategy now balances its Bitcoin treasury strategy with dividend obligations, share repurchases and liquidity requirements. Despite those sales, the latest acquisition confirms that Bitcoin remains central to Strategy’s corporate treasury approach.
