Because the stablecoin is issued natively on Canton, USD1 can settle alongside tokenized assets within the same transaction while benefiting from the network’s built-in privacy and permissioning features.
USD1 currently has a market capitalization of approximately $4.05 billion, making it the sixth-largest stablecoin, according to DeFiLlama. The stablecoin is issued by BitGo Bank & Trust, which is responsible for managing its reserves as well as processing token minting and redemptions, according to World Liberty Financial.
World Liberty Financial is a crypto venture backed by the Trump family that launched in 2024. USD1 debuted in March 2025 and is backed by reserves that include short-term US Treasurys, government money market funds and dollar deposits.
Canton is a public, permissionless blockchain designed specifically for institutional financial markets. The network says it processes and issues more than $9 trillion in tokenized assets every month, while over $350 billion in onchain US Treasurys moves across Canton each day. The addition of USD1 gives institutions another settlement asset that can operate directly alongside tokenized securities and other real-world assets on the network.
The USD1 integration follows another expansion of Canton announced last week. Digital Asset and former US House Speaker Paul Ryan’s American Idea Foundation revealed plans to pilot a Canton-based system for distributing state-administered benefits across three US states beginning in 2027.
The latest developments highlight Canton’s growing focus on institutional payments, tokenized financial assets and blockchain-based public-sector infrastructure.
