Ripple has received preliminary approval for a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), marking another step in the company’s European expansion.

The company announced on Tuesday that Luxembourg’s financial regulator had granted the initial approval. Once finalized, the license would allow Ripple to provide regulated crypto services to banks, fintech companies and businesses throughout all 30 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) under a single regulatory framework.

The development comes just ahead of the July 1 deadline, when MiCA rules will be fully implemented across the European Union. Ripple’s latest regulatory milestone builds upon its existing Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in Luxembourg, which already enables the company to offer regulated electronic money and cross-border payment services throughout the EEA.

Building a MiCA-compliant crypto and stablecoin infrastructure

Ripple said the combination of its pending CASP authorization and its EMI license would create a comprehensive regulatory foundation for digital asset services across Europe. According to the company, the two licenses together would enable a “full crypto asset and stablecoins payments infrastructure” through a single integration for clients.

Beyond payment services, the approval is expected to support Ripple’s expansion into a broader range of crypto-related activities across the region, where demand for regulated digital asset solutions continues to grow. “MiCA has helped to unlock a new wave of institutional digital assets adoption, and we are seeing that demand accelerate across the region,” said Cassie Craddock, Ripple’s Managing Director for the UK and Europe.

The company noted that Europe already represents one of its most important markets, making regulatory clarity under MiCA a key strategic advantage.

Europe emerges as a key crypto regulatory battleground

Ripple’s progress comes as crypto firms across Europe race to secure MiCA authorization before the new regulatory regime becomes fully effective. The framework is widely viewed as one of the most comprehensive crypto regulations globally, providing licensed firms with a regulatory passport that allows them to operate across the entire EEA.

While Ripple appears to be advancing through the approval process, several major industry players are still awaiting authorization. Reports have suggested that some exchanges, including Binance, continue to face regulatory uncertainty under the new framework.

Europe is increasingly becoming a testing ground for how large-scale crypto regulation can coexist with innovation and institutional adoption. Companies that secure MiCA licenses early may gain a competitive advantage as businesses seek regulated partners for digital asset and stablecoin services.

Ripple currently holds more than 75 regulatory licenses worldwide, including authorization from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority, which it obtained in January 2026. The latest approval further strengthens the company’s position as it expands regulated crypto and payments infrastructure across major global markets.
