Worldcoin Launches in Singapore

!!!!!WORLDCOIN

Following a reduction in its activities in India, Worldcoin has begun providing identity verification services to citizens of Singapore.

Worldcoin announced in a blog post on December 27 that people in Singapore could obtain the iris-scanning orbs at five different locations. Despite the platform's statement that its services were "steadily increasing in countries," the announcement from Singapore came after a brief suspension of scans for citizens of India.

At the time of publishing, Worldcoin's website indicated that verification locations were available in 11 countries, including the US. Due to privacy concerns, authorities in a few jurisdictions, including Kenya, suspended the project.

Prior to the official launch in July 2023, over two million people signed up for identity verification, which began in 2021.

As of the time of publication, over five million individuals—roughly 0.06% of the global population—had registered accounts using their real names, according to Worldcoin.

In November, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI and the man behind Worldcoin, was momentarily ejected from his role at the artificial intelligence research company.

After coworkers at OpenAI resigned in protest over his termination, Altman was reinstated 12 days later.
