Over the weekend, Solana briefly hit six-figure throughput under a heavy load of program call transactions, according to a developer. Mert Mumtaz, co-founder of the Solana developer tooling firm Helius, said the network became the “first major blockchain” to record 100,000 transactions per second (TPS) on its mainnet.
He noted that one block on Sunday contained 43,016 successful transactions and 50 failed ones, bringing total TPS to 107,540.
Most of these were not token transfers or trades but no-operation, or “noop,” program calls—basic instructions that don’t perform real computation or change network state. Since every Solana transaction must include at least one instruction, the noop program is often used when no meaningful operation is needed.
These lightweight calls stress-test network capacity but don’t mirror real-world payments or complex application activity. Mumtaz added that developers can still “deduce that you can also theoretically do about 80-100k tps in transfers, oracle updates, and similar [operations].”
Actual throughput is far lower. According to Solscan, Solana’s total TPS sits around 3,700, though that figure is inflated because roughly two-thirds of activity comes from validator voting transactions. Chainspect and Solscan estimate real throughput closer to 1,000 TPS.
The bulk of Solana’s activity continues to come from memecoins, with Pump.fun—the leading platform for minting and trading memecoins—accounting for 62% of total value locked. Solana’s decentralized finance ecosystem has been growing, with total value locked reaching $10.7 billion in recent months, near its January all-time high.
Solana’s token, SOL, dropped over the weekend as broader crypto markets cooled, falling to $187 from a high of $208 the week before. The token remains down 36% from its January peak of $293, according to CoinGecko.
