To drive Web3 adoption in Romania, the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest) has launched an in-house nonfungible token trading platform called ICI D|Services.
The platform aims to create a link between private and public sector institutions and users, providing an NFT marketplace that enables public and institutional users to mint, manage, and trade NFTs.
While ICI Bucharest had primarily focused on research and development over the past five years, it shifted its attention to exploring blockchain, Web3, and NFTs as the space gained traction around the world. The blockchain laboratory coordinator, Paul Niculescu-Mizil Gheorghe, stated that NFTs have gained significant popularity due to their ability to create unique and scarce digital assets that can be applied across numerous use cases, making them valuable assets for institutions.
Therefore, ICI Bucharest proposed the NFT platform to cater to this growing trend.
The platform's launch will showcase five distinct collections of NFTs, which have been created in partnership with several notable Romanian sports personalities, organizations, and institutions.
Among them are the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, David Popovici, a world record holder for the 100-meter freestyle swimming event, Agerpres, a Romanian news agency, Romfilatelia, a national philately organization, and the Central University Library in Bucharest.
