Philippines Digital Bank Launches Crypto Services

Philippines-based digital bank GoTyme, which now serves around 6.5 million users, has introduced cryptocurrency services to its platform after forming a partnership with U.S. fintech firm Alpaca. The bank’s mobile app now supports the purchase and storage of 11 digital assets through automatic conversion from Philippine pesos to U.S. dollars. The supported coins include Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, Polkadot and several other major altcoins.

The bank has not indicated whether it plans to add advanced trading tools later on, but the rollout is clearly aimed at making crypto access as straightforward as possible. As GoTyme CEO Nate Clarke explained, “Our product focuses on simplicity and reliability, designed for people who want to buy crypto confidently without complicated technical analysis or managing multiple apps.”

A growing digital bank with rapid user onboarding

Since launching in October 2022, GoTyme — created through a partnership between Singapore’s Tyme Group and the Philippines’ Gokongwei Group — has quickly expanded its user base. The bank’s app allows customers to open an account and receive a debit card within minutes, meaning crypto functions are easily accessible to new users.

Expansion across Southeast Asia

GoTyme is preparing to scale its services beyond the Philippines, with Vietnam and Indonesia named as future markets as it pursues growth in Southeast Asia’s booming digital banking landscape. Clarke recently reiterated that building scale remains the priority over profitability, stating, “We are very much still in a growth phase. We are not optimizing for profitability at the moment. What matters to us is building a growing and engaged customer base.”

The Philippines continues to be a notable player in global crypto adoption. It ranked ninth on Chainalysis’ 2025 Global Crypto Adoption Index and is considering legislation that would establish a strategic reserve of 10,000 BTC — a move underscoring the country’s deepening engagement with digital assets.
