Crypto Funding Neared $14 Billion in 2024

In 2024, venture capital investments in blockchain-based startups totaled $13.6 billion, according to a research report.
This accounted for 4.9% of the $279 billion in overall venture capital funding during the year.
This marks a recovery from 2023, when crypto firms attracted $10.1 billion in VC funding.
However, the sector remains significantly below its 2021 peak, which saw $32.4 billion funneled into crypto startups.
Notable deals in 2024 included Monad Labs raising $225 million to develop a layer-1 smart contract network and Berachain securing $100 million for its modular blockchain development platform.
Other highlights include Babylon, a Bitcoin staking protocol, raising $70 million, and Securitize receiving $47 million from BlackRock for its tokenization platform.
Projections from PitchBook indicate that 2025 will likely see a substantial increase, with venture capital investments in the crypto sector expected to exceed $18 billion.
Galaxy Research analysts foresee this growth being driven by a combination of falling interest rates and improved regulatory clarity in the crypto industry, which they believe will boost investor interest in venture opportunities.
“Crypto VC fundraising has historically lagged broader crypto market trends, and there will be some amount of 'catchup' over the next four quarters,” said Alex Thorn and Gabe Parker.
