Metaplanet and Strategy Boost Bitcoin Holdings

Strategy, the largest publicly traded holder of Bitcoin, revealed it had purchased an additional 245 BTC for $26 million during a period of heightened geopolitical tension, bringing its total holdings to 592,345 BTC. Acquired at an average price of $105,856 per coin, the purchase occurred as Bitcoin dropped from nearly $109,000 to below $99,000.

Despite being one of the company’s smaller acquisitions in recent months, the move reflects Michael Saylor’s ongoing commitment to accumulating Bitcoin, even at peak prices. “I’m sure that I will be buying Bitcoin at $1 million a coin — probably $1 billion a day of Bitcoin at $1 million a coin,” Saylor has previously said.

The company's year-to-date yield on its BTC holdings now stands at 19.2%, edging closer to its 25% target by year-end. The yield was only slightly higher than after the $1 billion purchase announced on June 16.

Meanwhile, Japan’s leading corporate Bitcoin investor, Metaplanet, disclosed its own purchase of 1,111 BTC for approximately $117 million. This brings its total holdings to 11,111 BTC, with an average cost basis of $95,560 — notably below its latest purchase price of just under $105,500 per coin.

Bitcoin was trading around $102,000 at the time of the announcement, roughly 3.3% below Metaplanet’s acquisition price.

Metaplanet’s aggressive accumulation strategy puts it just 398 BTC behind Tesla and positions it as the eighth-largest public holder of Bitcoin, with the potential to move further up the rankings soon. Its continued growth reflects a broader trend, with companies like Nakamoto Holdings, K33, and The Blockchain Group all recently launching or expanding Bitcoin treasury initiatives.

Altogether, over 240 public companies now hold a combined total of more than 832,000 BTC — nearly 4% of Bitcoin’s 21 million total supply.
