According to a local news outlet, the Kenyan government organized a 15-member committee led by Narok West Member of Parliament Gabriel Tongoyo to investigate the contentious crypto project.
The House committee has 42 days to investigate the project and report back to the parliamentary committee.
The parliamentary probe into the cryptocurrency initiative comes nearly three weeks after Kenya terminated Worldcoin's operations for failing to comply with official directives to stop scanning users' iris.
Kithure Kindiki, the Interior Cabinet Secretary who played a crucial role in suspending Worldcoin operations, told a House committee that the government is concerned about Worldcoin's actions registering residents and collecting iris data, all of which he argues pose serious security dangers.
Aside from the legislative committee, the Worldcoin initiative has been flatly rejected by Kenya's numerous regulatory organizations.
Following a case brought by the Office of the Data Commissioner, the court also suspended Worldcoin's operations. The court ruled that the data gathered by Worldcoin between April of last year and August of 2023 be retained until the dispute is resolved.
