Key Ethereum stakeholders have come together to establish the Ethereum Protocol Advocacy Alliance (EPAA), a new organization dedicated to coordinating policy efforts and improving lawmakers’ understanding of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Announced on Tuesday, the EPAA said its creation was essential to counter what it described as the “outsized influence” of centralized crypto organizations in policymaking. “This imbalance has often left the principles and technologies underpinning onchain infrastructure misunderstood or overlooked,” the group stated.
The alliance includes several leading names in decentralized finance, such as Aave Labs, Aragon, Curve, Lido Labs Foundation, Spark Foundation, The Graph Foundation, and the Uniswap Foundation. “Together, we secure over $100 billion in assets through open, non-custodial protocols that operate without intermediaries. Drawing on our pragmatic and technical experience, we will advocate for onchain solutions to regulatory challenges,” the statement read.
The Ethereum Foundation has also endorsed the initiative, with co-executive director Tomasz K. Stańczak confirming its support for the “community-led coordination on advocacy.”
The move comes after the previous U.S. election cycle saw the rise of Fairshake, one of the largest cryptocurrency Political Action Committees (PACs), founded by venture capital firm a16z, exchange giant Coinbase, and Ripple, the creators of the XRP Ledger. Fairshake raised $260 million and spent nearly $196 million on lobbying and campaign-related efforts, according to OpenSecrets.
Given the size and influence of its founding members, the EPAA is expected to have substantial capacity to engage with regulators and lawmakers. The group outlined four core approaches to achieving its mission: offering technical expertise, producing accessible educational materials, coordinating outreach to amplify messaging, and identifying shared areas of technical interest across the blockchain community.
The Ethereum ecosystem continues to evolve with initiatives aimed at enhancing communication, branding, coordination, and onboarding. Earlier this month, the Ethereum Foundation updated its grants program, moving toward a more selective funding model.
At the end of October, the foundation also launched institutions.ethereum.org — a new platform designed to facilitate smoother onboarding for institutional participants exploring opportunities within the Ethereum network.
