The English Premier League has sealed a partnership with football fantasy fanatics Sorare to issue digital player cards powered by Ethereum. With Sorare, fans can mint, collect and trade digital player cards with other users across multiple non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces.
While the partnership was officially publicized on January 30, a Sorare spokesperson stated that discussions between the renowned football (or is it soccer?) league have been ongoing for a while. This move marks a step forward in an initiative which dates back to 2019, where Sorare signed West Ham United as its first English club as a partner on its platform.
According to Sorare, its technology platform “is the means, not the ends, to connecting users with their favourite clubs, and we welcome it powering the next generation of sports fandom and entertainment.” NFT activity has diminished in 2023, so it remains a mystery how much attention this collaboration will attract.
