Elon Musk: AI Could Destroy Civilization

.AI2

Technology leader Elon Musk re-affirmed the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in posing a genuine threat to human civilization. The Tesla and Twitter chief continues to highlight the destructive potential of AI, that just like any other technology or innovation, it can be detrimental to society if it’s controlled by the wrong hands or made with ill intentions.

While the probability of contemporary AI technologies representing a threat to mankind is quite small, Musk said in a FOX interview that “however small ne may regard that probability, but it is non-trivial - it has the potential of civilizational destruction.” Crypto Twitter has picked up the conversation, and Musk once more re-iterated his perspective that “Anyone who thinks this risk is 0% is an idiot.”

Some technology leaders besides Elon Musk are more optimistic about AI and what it can positively bring to humanity in their day-to-day lives, such as Bill Gates. The innovative billionaire has been a long advocate for the adoption of AI and its utility as a game changer across many walks of life.
