Twitter executive and tech tycoon Elon Musk has accused Meta Platforms head Mark Zuckerberg of “cheating” over the release of the Threads platform which Musk alleges Zuckerberg of using Twitter data and trade secrets.
Twitter lawyer Alex Spiro took to the social media platform of the renowned blue bird to write a letter which highlights the company’s intention to “strictly enforce its intellectual property rights,” also demanding that Meta stop using Twitter’s trade secrets immediately.
Spiro’s letter states that Meta hired ex-employees of Twitter employees which have access to confidential information. Spiro wrote that Zuckerberg-led Meta Platforms have assigned these employees to build a “copycat” application which resembles Twitter, in which they have coined as Threads.
Spiro alleges that Meta utilized the trade secrets and intellectual property of Twitter to accelerate the process of developing the application, and that the letter serves as a formal notice to Meta to preserve the documents which are linked to the Twitter-Meta dispute.
On July 6th, Elon Musk added more fuel to the fire by replying to a tweet by @TitterDaily which leaked Spiro’s letter to Meta, tweeting that “Competition is fine” but that “cheating is not.”
