El Salvador's Ministry of Education and the nonprofit, nongovernmental organization Mi Primer Bitcoin (MPB), which translates as "My First Bitcoin," have teamed to incorporate Bitcoin education into public school curricula by 2024.
MPB founder John Dennehy revealed that this is a Ministry of Education project that MPB, along with Bitcoin Beach, is collaborating with.
According to Dennehy, the major source material for the Bitcoin element will be the Mi Primer Bitcoin program, from which students will get a diploma of completion.
He stated that the pilot program's training will begin on September 7th, with assistance from Bitcoin Beach. The Bitcoin diploma program will provide 150 public school instructors from 75 different schools with a "base knowledge" of Bitcoin.
“As the first nation to adopt Bitcoin, El Salvador will be an example for the world. Quality education is our best chance to ensure that that example is a positive one.”
Dennehy stated that following the initial training, the instructors will return to their respective schools and teach from the Ministry of Education's curriculum. "If successful," he continued, "the program will be rolled out to every school in the country next year."
“When My First Bitcoin began two years ago, one of the dreams was to educate a nation. This is a significant step toward that.”
In a recent interview, Bitcoin Beach community leader Roman Martnez informed Cointelegraph that over 25,000 pupils in El Salvador had already studied about Bitcoin in school.
Dennehy stated that, while El Salvador is the current emphasis, the objective is to offer Bitcoin education to the rest of the world.
“El Salvador is leading the way with public Bitcoin education, and we expect other nations to follow. The world is watching.”
