An artificial intelligence (AI) voice generator is being used by scammers to deceive cryptocurrency users, according to a social media alert from American venture capitalist Tim Draper.
Draper cautioned his roughly 254,000 followers in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on October 19 to be wary of "thieves" using AI to approximate his voice.
The venture capitalist claimed that "AI is getting smarter" as evidenced by followers purportedly reporting that Draper attempted to solicit cryptocurrency from them.
Recent developments in AI have made it simpler for the average person to watch videos of politicians saying whatever they want or listen to their favorite celebrity's voice.
Scammers produced a deepfake video of former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried offering compensation to affected users after FTX collapsed in November 2022.
In May 2022, a deepfake of Tesla CEO Elon Musk led to a similar circumstance.
Draper was a pioneering cryptocurrency investor who once forecast that the price of Bitcoin (BTC) would reach $250,000 by 2023.
Despite suffering a loss of about 40,000 BTC as a result of the 2011 collapse of Mt. Gox, he has persisted in supporting the digital asset market.
