Colombia Tests Legal System on Metaverse

COLOMBIA

According to a Reuters report published on February 24, Colombia’s Magdalena Administrative Court held a court case in the metaverse realm for the first time on February 15 which involves participants in a traffic dispute.

The case which lasted two hours progressed “partly” in the metaverse, marking the South American nation as a pioneer in the digital space as it seeks to conduct legal proceedings in an innovative way.

Colombia was one of the world’s first countries to test legal proceedings in the metaverse, with Magistrate Maria Quinones Triana noting that the court room felt more “real than a video call”.

Some people believe that the metaverse should not be a space for legal proceedings, yet, a recent survey by CoinWire found that 69% of respondents feel that the metaverse will eventually improve social lifestyles as new approaches are being implemented towards leveraging the capabilities of entertainment and activities.
