BITmarkets Announces Doctors Without Borders as Chosen ESG Cause

In 2024, BITmarkets invited its community of BTMT holders to take part in its ESG initiative and help determine which charitable organization would receive support through the platform’s dedicated ESG fund.

The initiative gave users the opportunity to choose between three organizations representing humanitarian, environmental and wildlife-focused causes: Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), The Ocean Cleanup and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Voting took place during November 2024, giving BTMT holders a direct role in deciding how funds accumulated for the initiative would be directed.

ESG Vote Ends in a Tie

Following the conclusion of the community vote, Doctors Without Borders and The Ocean Cleanup finished level with 43 votes each, resulting in a tie for first place. The result reflected strong community support for two very different areas of impact. Doctors Without Borders provides medical humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters and limited access to healthcare, while The Ocean Cleanup develops technologies aimed at removing plastic from oceans and preventing plastic from reaching them through rivers.

The vote formed part of BITmarkets’ wider commitment to involving its community in socially responsible initiatives and using the BITmarkets Token ecosystem to support positive real-world impact.

Doctors Without Borders Selected as ESG initiative choice

Following the tied community vote, the BITmarkets Board reviewed the two leading organizations and selected Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as the recipient of the funds from the BITmarkets ESG wallet.

The decision took into account MSF’s established international reputation and humanitarian work, as well as its ability to accept cryptocurrency donations, enabling BITmarkets to deliver the contribution using digital assets.

MSF is an independent international medical humanitarian organization that provides medical assistance to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare.
