Binance and Huobi Froze Crypto Assets

Binance and Huobi have frozen accounts related to a 100 million USD hack of Harmony Horizon bridge that occurred in June 2021. The frozen accounts are worth about 1.4 million USD and are linked to the North Korean Lazarus Group, a notorious hacking group.

Blockchain analytics firm Elliptic investigated the case and traced the stolen funds sent through the mixer. This demonstrates the industry's responsibility to prevent money laundering and ensure that cryptocurrency is not used for illicit activities, according to Elliptic CEO Simone Maini.

Binance and Huobi have once again frozen accounts connected to the Harmony Horizon bridge hack from last June, with 1.4 million USD in crypto frozen by the exchanges reportedly coming from accounts associated with the North Korean group Lazarus. Elliptic, a blockchain analytics firm, carried out the investigation but did not disclose the coins or tokens that were frozen.

This is not the first time Binance and Huobi have worked together on this issue, having recovered 121 BTC worth 2.5 million USDD in mid-January. Meanwhile, recent reports from Elliptic indicate that Lazarus has laundered around 100 million USD in Bitcoin through a relaunch of the now-sanctioned privacy mixer Blender.
