Artificial intelligence will now also enter the field of pharmaceuticals. Thanks to fast learning, it can drive powerful biotechnological innovations, for example, such as in the discovery of new drugs. It can generate new molecules and potentially develop new medical treatments.
The company Insilico Medicnie is utilizing AI to identify new diseases, analyze affected patients and synthesize new molecules that could assist in treatment. The company has brought its anti-IPF (Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) drug to Phase 1 of clinical trials in less than 30 months. Positive news of this progress was brought in January 2023. The potential of AI and its assistance in this area should gradually gain momentum and could be equally-beneficial in perfecting the treatment of COVID-19 disease.
Some tech leaders consider the rapid development of AI to be dangerous, among them Elon Musk. Despite this, he has announced the creation of his own AI-focused startup, but remains cautious, claiming that in the wrong hands, it could pose a threat to the entire civilization. "Anyone who thinks this risk is 0% is an idiot," he said.
Among other tech leaders, Bill Gates, for example, sees the potential of AI in a more positive light and Amazon has also stepped up to secure its place in the AI market with its Amazon Bedrock project which helps users scale the model using their own personal data. Artificial intelligence seems to be a phenomenon of recent months, and it is experiencing its biggest boom right now; it has existed before, just with less intensity and popularization.
Before ChatGPT and DALL-E, AI was already operating as generative artificial intelligence back in 2014. In addition to already figuring in technology extensively, it has also found its place in art and design. In 2021, an AI-created work of art called "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" by artist Beeple using the eponymous AI sold for $69 million at Christie's auction house. The program generated a new artwork every day for several years and created the entire NFT collection. Since then, artificial intelligence is just getting bigger.
