35 Companies Now Hold at Least 1,000 Bitcoin
Corporate interest in Bitcoin is on the rise, with 35 publicly traded companies now each holding over 1,000 BTC. This marks a significant increase from 24 such companies at the end of Q1 and reflects expanding institutional involvement in the leading cryptocurrency.
Four months after U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order proposing a federal Bitcoin reserve, demand among public companies has surged. Chris Kuiper, vice president of research at Fidelity Digital Assets, noted that more companies are acquiring Bitcoin, with holdings surpassing $116 billion collectively.
He stated, “Bitcoin purchases became more widely distributed across public companies rather than concentrated among a few large buyers.”
Fidelity’s data came shortly after Bitcoin overtook Amazon in market capitalization, becoming the world’s fifth-largest asset. The trend is further illustrated by updated figures from BitcoinTreasuries.NET, which now counts over 278 public entities holding Bitcoin—up from 124 in recent weeks. The United States leads with 94 public entities holding BTC, followed by Canada with 40 and the United Kingdom with 19.
Institutional accumulation also drove a 35% increase in Bitcoin purchases quarter-over-quarter, rising from 99,857 BTC in Q1 to 134,456 BTC in Q2 of 2025. “Not only did the total purchases increase from Q1 to Q2 of 2025 [...], but there are a lot more companies doing the buying,” said Kuiper.
Supporting this upward trend, Iliya Kalchev, dispatch analyst at Nexo, pointed out that Bitcoin’s open interest remains high. “Open interest in Bitcoin futures remains elevated above $45 billion, just shy of its historical peak, pointing to continued institutional engagement and speculative leverage,” he told Cointelegraph.
While he observed that the short-term trend appears flat, he added that positioning indicates markets are preparing for a pivotal phase.
