A survey conducted by the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) revealed that more than a third of all young Australians hold or have traded cryptocurrencies over the past year.
The study has shed light on the attitudes towards risk by age, and if that perhaps has any correlation with one’s age group. ASX reported that 46% of “next generation investors”, which they defined as investors aged 18 to 24 – described themselves as those which prefer “stable returns”. Yet, 31% of survey respondents indicated their preference towards investing in crypto.
According to the report, “the apparent financial conservatism of younger investors is at odds with their level of investment in cryptocurrency,” which reflects the positive attitude of the nation’s younger generation towards cryptocurrencies and digital assets.
ASX researchers stated that the inclination towards cryptocurrencies is likely attributed to their desire to do things differently than their parents, paired with the observation that “many of the 1.2 million new investors who've taken up investing since 2020 are tech-savvy and connected to social media.”
Among the other findings of the study revealed that 28% of “next generation investors” prefer guaranteed returns, 16% accept moderate variability in returns while 10% accept higher variability with potential for higher returns.
