The United Kingdom is leading the world in growing cryptocurrency ownership among its population in 2025, surpassing economies like the United States, according to a new report by Gemini.

Gemini, the U.S.-based crypto exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, released its latest “State of Crypto” report on May 27, offering insights into global crypto adoption trends for assets like Bitcoin.

Based on a survey of 7,200 adults across the U.S., Europe, Singapore, and Australia, the report found that Europe is ahead in crypto ownership growth, with the UK in the lead.

The UK saw the biggest year-over-year increase in crypto ownership among the surveyed nations, with 24% of respondents holding crypto as of April, up from 18% last year, according to Gemini’s report shared with Cointelegraph.

Singapore remains the country with the highest overall crypto ownership rate for the past two years, with 28% of respondents saying they own crypto as of April, up from 26% in 2024.

France has also seen growth, with 21% of respondents holding crypto in 2025, up from 18% in 2024.

In the U.S., crypto ownership rose slightly to 22% from 21%.

Overall, the global crypto ownership rate in the surveyed countries increased from 21% to 24% by April, suggesting that nearly one in four adults globally now owns crypto.

Gemini’s report suggests that the rise in crypto ownership over the past few years may be linked to the impact of the Trump administration’s policies and an overall positive sentiment following the 2022 bear market.

The report specifically notes that crypto ownership in France and the UK grew, reflecting a more favorable regulatory environment in Europe, including the rollout of the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).

The UK has not yet implemented a national crypto regulatory framework.

In April, the UK government released a draft statutory instrument (SI) aimed at regulating crypto exchanges, dealers, and agents to improve consumer protection and operational resilience.

After a public consultation that closed on May 23, the UK Treasury expects to finalize the “near-final version” of the SI later this year.
