Visa CEO – Stablecoins and CBDCs to Play Major Role in Payments
According to the remarks made at Visa’s annual stockholder meeting on January 24th, CEO Al Kelly which’ll officially step down in the start of February shared the company’s plans for the emergence of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and the imminent popularization acceleration for stablecoins.
Kelly stated that Visa believes that “stablecoins and central bank digital currencies have the potential to play a meaningful role in the payments space,” and that the company has a slew of initiatives underway.
Over the recent years, the payment processing pioneer developed several crypto-focused initiatives and operations, with the CEO re-iterating that Visa “had an immaterial amount of investments in crypto funds and companies” as it seeks to invest in the evolving ecosystem of digital payments.
