Research from daapGambl revealed that more than one third of TikTok videos focused on crypto were providing misleading information, and that 47% of creators which focus on crypto were found to make money by pushing certain services on the popular social media platform.
TikTok can be regarded as the go-to social media platform for the younger generation, with many using it as a source of information for the revelations surrounding cryptocurrencies in short-form style. Information and perhaps advice on videos which feature hashtags such as “#cryptok” may not be as accurate as advertised, showed daapGambl’s study.
One in three “cryptok” videos were found to be misleading, and only one in ten “cryptok” videos or accounts contained some form of disclaimer which warned viewers about the risk of investing. Mainstream influencers including Kim Kardashian, Jake Paul and Solja Boy have previously been accused of promoting cryptocurrencies to their millions of followers without disclosing payments which they have received.
Crypto videos continue to generate views on the platform, with highly-used hashtags including #crypto, #cryptocurrency, #cryptotrading and #cryptoinvesting accumulating more than 6 billion views in total.
