Cryptocurrency investment products hit a new record for inflows as Bitcoin surpassed the $100,000 mark for the first time.

According to a report by crypto investment firm CoinShares, digital asset investment products recorded their highest-ever weekly inflows of $3.85 billion during the trading week of Dec. 2–6.

This milestone came just weeks after the previous record of $3.12 billion was set in November.

The surge in inflows coincided with Bitcoin breaking past $100,000 on Dec. 5, reaching an all-time high of $104,000.

Bitcoin investment products led the way, contributing $2.5 billion of the total weekly inflows, which brought year-to-date inflows for BTC products to $36.5 billion.

Meanwhile, short Bitcoin products saw minimal activity, with inflows of just $6.2 million.

“Historically, we have seen much higher inflows after sharp price rises, suggesting investors remain cautious on betting against the recent strong momentum,” wrote CoinShares’ head of research, James Butterfill, in the update.

Ethereum also set records last week, with Ether surpassing $4,000 on Dec. 6.

Ethereum investment products saw $1.2 billion in weekly inflows, marking their highest levels since Ethereum ETFs were first introduced in the United States in July.

However, the spike in Ethereum ETF investments came “at the expense” of Solana, which recorded $14 million in outflows. Butterfill noted this marked the second consecutive week of outflows for Solana products.

Additionally, blockchain equities experienced inflows of $124 million, the highest since January, reflecting growing investor confidence in improving Bitcoin miner margins, according to Butterfill.

Cryptocurrency ETFs have had a remarkable year in 2024, spurred by the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States in January.

On Dec. 6, combined Bitcoin ETF holdings exceeded 1.1 million BTC for the first time, surpassing the holdings of Bitcoin’s anonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
