Santa Cruz Board of Supervisors in Northern California have unanimously decided to give the green light to implementing digital wallets for government services and official documentation purposes in a meeting on April 25.
The final consensus of the meeting revealed that the white-labeled blockchain-based wallet powered by Humbl will launch a pilot program which is segmented into three phases, beginning in July 2023. According to agenda-encapsulating document released by the Santa Cruz County, the first phase will witness wallets being used for purposes surrounding bicycle registration, RV parking registration and added functionality for emergency push notifications.
Other use-cases have also been identified, which include park facility registration, park volunteer hours tracking, over-the-counter building permit distribution, and pet licensing if Santa Cruz Animal Services Authority is interested and approves a pilot project.
In stage two, staff shall provide a formal report on development and the rollout plan by September 2023, followed by intermediate status briefings shared throughout the development operation before official launch.
