If you are a fan of Pokémon and you like to play NFT games, be careful. A fake Pokémon NFT game was released and infected users’ computers with malware. A security firm informed the community that the alleged virus was spread via a phishing page masquerading as a Pokémon NFT card game.

On January 6th, AhnLab released a thorough study. The analytical team at the security firm discovered that the hackers used a NetSupport Remote Administration Tool (RAT) to take over consumers' machines. NetSupport Manager is a remote-control tool used by both business and home users to operate systems.

While developers may not have created remote administration tools like NetSupport with malicious intent, many threat actors do. These include the installation of new malware and the extortion of information. According to the security firm, hackers have routinely employed NetSupport RAT. It is spread by spam emails, fraudulent websites, and other ways.

When players attempted to play the alleged Pokémon game, it would install a NetSupport RAT. Users were apparently fooled into thinking they had downloaded the game after downloading a file disguised as a Pokémon card game icon.

Furthermore, AhnLab disclosed that the Fauxkémon installer will allegedly build hidden NetSupport RAT-related files on customers' PCs, allowing the virus to operate even after a reboot. Following an investigation, the security company discovered another phishing page with the same style as the phony Pokémon card game, which used the same way to install NetSupport RAT malware on customers' machines.
