Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG), a fast-casual restaurant brand, has begun taking bitcoin payments using Flexa, a digital payment platform. Flexa may be used to pay for burritos and other Tex-Mex favorites at any Chipotle location in the United States. Bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), and Solana's SOL are among the 98 digital currencies supported by the Flexa platform. Other crypto available to pay with are Ethereum, Dogecoin and Shiba Inu. To utilize Flexa for in-store transactions, customers must first download the Gemini or SPEDN apps, which store digital assets. Chipotle is offering a 10% discount to customers who make their next purchase using any digital currency in a Flexa-enabled app to commemorate the launch of its new payment alternatives.
Chipotle's foray into digital money isn't its first. Chipotle said last year that to commemorate National Burrito Day, it would give away 100,000 USD in free burritos and 100,000 USD in bitcoin. Chipotle established its own in-game currency, Burrito Bucks, on Roblox (RBLX) earlier this year to coincide with the release of its Burrito Builder game on the same platform. At selected Chipotle restaurants, players may swap Burrito Bucks for a free entrée ticket.
