Asian Investors Boost Crypto Exposure

11.12.25.03
Asia continues to strengthen its position as a region where cryptocurrencies move from the fringes of investing into the core of wealth management. According to the new Sygnum APAC HNWI Report 2025, six in ten wealthy Asians plan to increase their crypto allocation over the next two to five years. The trend reflects the fact that digital assets are already held by the vast majority of respondents.

Most Asian investors already hold crypto

The survey included 270 investors with over one million dollars in assets and professionals with more than a decade of experience. Respondents came from ten APAC countries – primarily Singapore, but also Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, and Thailand.

The results are clear. Cryptocurrencies are held by 87 percent of respondents, and roughly half allocate more than ten percent of their portfolio to them. The average allocation reaches 17 percent, which, according to Sygnum co-founder and CEO Gerald Goh, illustrates a fundamental shift in the region’s investment mindset.

Digital assets seen as wealth protection, not speculation

Up to 90 percent of investors consider digital assets essential for long-term wealth preservation and family estate planning. These are investors with a ten- to twenty-year horizon who focus on intergenerational wealth transfer rather than short-term gains.

Diversification remains one of the key drivers. Most active investors hold major blockchain tokens such as bitcoin, ether, or Solana. Demand for institutional services is also strong – 87 percent of respondents would welcome crypto products offered by their private bankers through regulated partners.

Regulation in Asia pushes the market toward institutionalization

The report also examines the regulatory landscape. While Asian regulation is often labeled strict, Goh argues it is more structured and methodical. Singapore's MAS has tightened licensing requirements, capital rules, and retail access, while creating clear standards for custody, operational security, and investor protection.

According to Goh, this is a step toward a robust infrastructure that enables institutional participation. Hong Kong is moving in a similar direction.

Asia sets the pace for the global crypto market

The findings show that cryptocurrencies have become a mainstream tool for wealth management in Asia rather than a fringe speculation. Rising demand from high-net-worth investors pushes banks and advisors to digitalize their services and incorporate crypto-related products.

With the average allocation at around 17 percent, the share may continue to rise, positioning Asia as the region shaping the pace and direction of the global digital-asset market.
